Once we returned home from our honeymoon we put our reception plans on the back burner to allow time for the holidays to pass since it can be such a stressful time of year for people. We decided we would have a Disney themed wedding reception in early spring. While time marched on I used my creative abilities and crafting skills to create my own Disney themed decorations. As you will see in the following pictures. I began my planning process with the idea of wanting to do a hanging swag using tulle and white lights. I bought 60+ yards of tulle and just after Christmas I found a box of 400 white lights at Walmart half off they only cost $5.00. I then went to Hobby Lobby and decided that at the points of my decorative swag I would incorporate Mickey Mouse by using Styrofoam balls I bought a large and medium size bags full and cut each ball in half. I then dipped the Styrofoam into Modge Podge which is a water based glue used for puzzles then I dipped them into silver glitter making sure to get a nice thick coating. After the glue dried I sprayed each piece with a triple thick clear acrylic glaze to seal on the glitter. Then I glued the ears and heads together to make Mickey's. I used a variety of colored curling ribbon and hung it on the bottom of each head to add a splash of color. I decided to buy fiber optic sprays to use as table centerpieces at $2.00 each and used Disney hole punches to make colored confetti. I had a collection of Disney movie characters from Mcdonald's that I picked up for next to nothing on Ebay and glued the characters to little round and squared mirrors to decorate around the cake table. I decided to have a cupcake tree rather than a cake and on the top of the tree there will be a laser etched crystal of Tink flying over Cinderella castle. It will be placed upon a rotating base that changes colors with the use of led lights. I found both the crystal and base on Ebay for a total of $10.00 together. I had an old Disney daily calendar I made use of by cutting out all of the character pictures and gluing them to various colored construction paper and these too will be placed upon the tables with the confetti. For favors I bought a kit at Walmart which is small clear boxes that I filled with various colored candies and tied with a silver ribbon. I made a mixed CD of Disney love songs and theme park music for the DJ to play during dinner at the reception. My husband and I decided our first dance will be to Miley Cyrus' One In A Million and my father daughter dance will be to Billy Ray Cyrus and Miley Cyrus' Ready, Set, Don't Go. It's not going to be a huge fancy reception, more of a fun celebration and this is also why we chose to use Disney as a theme basis. I just thought that I would post some of the tools I used to give out some creative ideas. The reception will be this Saturday and I'll be sure to post pictures of the decorations in place so that you may get an idea of what it looks like. I'll gladly answer any questions anyone has on how to put any of these together and I'm willing to help anyone with figuring what to do.
